SUMMER WORK PERMITS

OBTAINING WORK PERMITS DURING SUMMER, 2009

Work permit applications may be picked up in the Tesoro Career Center through Tues., June 23. Work permits applications can also be downloaded at:

 After that time, work permit applications will only be processed at specific locations according to the following schedule:

 

Wednesday, June 24 through Friday, July 31:

Mondays from 9:00am to 11:00pm at San Juan Hills High School

Tuesdays from 9:00am to 11:00pm at San Juan Hills High School

Wednesdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm at Dana Hills High School

Thursdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm at Dana Hills High School

All District offices will be closed on Fridays in July. No work permits will be processed on Fridays in July.

 

 

Monday, August 3 through Monday, August 31:

Work permit applications will be processed in the Tesoro High School front office from 8:00am to 2:30pm daily. Closed 12:00-12:30 – lunch.

 

 

Beginning Tuesday, September 1:

Work permit applications will be processed in the Tesoro Career Center 8:00am- 3:00pm daily.

 

REMINDERS:

  • Applications must be signed by the employer and include the name of the Workmen's Compensation insurance carrier.  
  • A parent or guardian must also sign the application.  
  • A social security number is required to process a work permit.  
  • Students need to bring the application to the designated location, according to the schedule above.  
  • Every effort will be made to process permits quickly, but figure one day to process your work permit.  
  • The completed work permit is picked up by the student and taken to his/her employer.  
  • Each new job requires a new work permit.  The permit is made out to the employer.  It's the Law!


California law requires any student under the age of 18 to obtain a work permit.  The hours a student may work vary according to age.  

15 years and under: When school is not in session, they may work no more than 8 hours on any day and 40 hours a week maximum.

16 years and over: When school is not is session, they may work no more than 8 hours on any day and 48 hours a week maximum.

  1. Complete student section
  2. Employer completes and signs employer section
  3. Parent statement signed by one parent or guardian
  4. Complete social security number
  5. There is no minimum GPA required for summer work permits
  6. Return completed application to the designated location
  7. Allow 24 hours to process
